The purpose in life must be more than going to work, coming home and going to bed. I don’t believe in the work ethic. The dignity and value of a man is not in his labour or abilities, it is in his worth as a human being. The value and dignity of a man is in his humanity. The purpose of your seventy years seems to me to be about discovering what your brain and body are capable of. Seventy years is nothing so you may as well push yourself right to the very extremes of your capabilities. I find it interesting to test myself, as long as I don’t hurt other people. I’m capable of doing more than some people and less than others. So is everybody else, but as you can only be capable of so much and as you will always wish to do more, and probably be dissatisfied with what you’ve already done, then you can never be content. It’s a problem. The only real sin is wasting time…
